Cusco – Km 104 – Inca Trail – Machu Picchu
We pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at around 4:00 a.m. and drive you to Ollantaytambo. There you take the train to Km 104, the starting point of the one-day Inca Trail, and begin hiking at Chachabamba (2,100 m above sea level), an important Inca ceremonial site.
The trail climbs through jungle vegetation to Wiñayhuayna, one of the most beautiful complexes on the Inca Trail, with agricultural terraces and temples. Here you pause to have lunch and rest.
Next you continue to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you get your view of Machu Picchu. You reach the citadel in the afternoon, when most visitors are already leaving, explore it briefly, and take photos. You take a bus down to Aguas Calientes, the train back to Ollantaytambo, and a private transfer takes you to Cusco, where you arrive at around 10:30 p.m.
